Advance Base with Megabitch and Attic Friend

Advance Base is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL singer/songwriter OwenAshworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano,Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, &nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of AdvanceBase has been described as “lo-fi,” “depressed” & “weirdly uplifting.”Animal Companionship, the third & most recent “studio” album by Advance Base, was released September21, 2018 by Run For Cover Records / Orindal Records. GoldFlakePaint & Various Small Flames both listedAnimal Companionship among their favorite albums of 2018. Since then, Advance Base has released Wallof Tears & Other-Songs I Didn’t Write, a home-recorded collection of (mostly) country/Americana coversarranged for electronic instruments & Live at Home, a collection of mid-quarantine livestream concertperformances & the closest representation of an Advance Base live set commercially available. A newsingle titled ”Little Sable Point Lighthouse” was released on March 31, 2022.“It’s with no exaggeration we describe Owen Ashworth as one of the most consistent and importantsongwriters in contemporary indie music. From the earliest Casiotone For the Painfully Alone demos tomost recent Advance Base single ‘Little Sable Point Lighthouse‘, Owen has crafted a catalogue ofcharacters and circumstances with few rivals in the modern era. His is an ever evolving body of work whichstands out in its deftness and humility and empathy and care, bringing to life individuals from across thespectrum of human experience while remaining unerringly attuned to the tender, fallible heart at the centreof each.” – Various Small Flames”A Raymond Carver short story collection set to music by a Joan of Arc-era OMD” – MOJO Magazine

Oort Patrol Album Release Show w/ Distortions, Worthington’s Law

Oort Patrol   Oort Patrol inhabits the temporally ambivalent space where the thrilling sounds of melodic punk rock meet the wonderment of exploration and the crushing weight of galactic bureaucracy. May be enjoyed by fans of Sludgeworth, Leatherface, Tiltwheel, Samiam, and others in that vein. The band’s second full length record, “Human Vice President,” is out on Boared to Death Records on October 4.   Distortions   Distortions is a punk band from Chapel Hill. They are comprised of members from other Triangle bands including Manic Third Planet and Narsick. This summer, they released ‘On the Rocks,’ their second EP on Boared to Death Records.   Worthington’s Law   Worthington’s Law is a supposedly funny punk band from Durham, NC. Blending comedic themes about everyday annoyances and the sounds of 80s and 90s punk rock, Worthington’s Law is here to provide a ginger-ale shaking good time.

Charles Latham & the Borrowed Band, Crank Stallion

Charles Latham & The Borrowed Band   From Durham, NC, wry lyricist and charismatic frontman Charles Latham leads the dynamic, high-octane Borrowed Band (which includes former members of Ben Folds Five, Shooter Jennings, Six-String Drag and more) on a wild ride from ballads to barnstormers. Their 2020 self-titled release was featured in No Depression and music critic Brian Howe (INDY Week) wrote “Latham habitually animates pastiches of vintage Americana with deftly verbose lyrics, not unlike Django Haskins of The Old Ceremony, which positions him well to pull off the wordplay at the bedrock of country songwriting.”    “Reminiscent of the glorious sloppiness of Neil Young & Crazy Horse.” – Folk Radio UK Website / Bandcamp / Instgaram      Crank Stallion     Website Crank Stallion emerges as an enigmatic trio from Chapel Hill, NC. Offering a genre-blending fusion of avant-garde rock, jazz, funk, and experimental tones. With an instrumentation lineup boasting keyboards, an 8 string Hybrid guitar-bass, and drums, our crafted guitars, textured keys, and thunderous rhythms coalesce into a sound defying categorization. Crank Stallion draws comparisons to a unique blend of Tom Waits, Medeski Martin and Wood, and Ruben Gonzalez.   “With a mix of influences that stir together the outsider, avant sounds of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits with the groovier, rhythmic sounds of jazz organ trios, a Crank Stallion performance sounds entirely from another time without being able to ascertain if that time is the past or the future.” -TheLocalMusicSpot
