When Colin Cutler and Hot Pepper Jam show up, it’s all on the table.”…a juke joint energy coursing through it and a humidity that seems to sweat out the sins and the booze that these characters are often soaked in.” ~Paste”Wickedly funny.” ~Susquehanna Folk Music Society”Devastating.” ~Americana Highways”One magnificent tapestry of roots music.” ~No DepressionColin Cutler and Hot Pepper Jam’s music stretches across the American roots music world, from acoustic oldtime and alt country to electric blues and rock’n’roll, with touches of bluegrass and jam band energy. The last couple years have seen them playing at Merlefest, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival, the North Carolina Folk Festival, the Susquehanna Folk Festival, Antlers and Acorns Songwriters Festival, and the Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival, while selling out Greensboro’s Flat Iron and touring for shows from Georgia to Indiana’s Notre Dame University.  Tarwater, their first release as a band, reached the top 20 in both Folk and Alt Country radio charts on its release.  Charles Latham and the Borrowed Band   Charles Latham is a singular voice in the North Carolina music scene — a bold and imaginative songwriter whose sharp wit, emotional depth, and magnetic performances have earned him comparisons to legends like Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Robyn Hitchcock. After years of crisscrossing the U.S. and U.K., Latham put down roots in Durham, NC, in 2014. His 2017 album, Little Me Time, highlighted his talent for pairing razor-sharp lyrics with compelling melodies and expansive production. To bring his songs to life on stage, Latham formed The Borrowed Band, an ensemble of some of the region’s most respected musicians, including former members of Ben Folds Five, Shooter Jennings, and 6 String Drag. Together, they deliver a captivating blend of ballads and barnstormers, drawing on the chemistry of vintage duets like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris while adding a modern twist.   Pillow Foot   Pillow Foot is a new collaboration between four veterans of the Triangle’s music scene: singer-songwriter John Gillespie, drummer and producer Ian Schreier, guitarist Stefan Rogers, and bassist Chris Dunbar.

Weird God with Gio Mesto and Ex Iguana

Weird God Bandcamp Born and raised in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas, this North Carolina based sibling duo mixes loud and fast big beats with dreamlike melodies to create a delightful cosmic swirl of post rock/punk exultation.   Gio Mesto Bandcamp Based in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area, Gio Mesto is a four piece that plays songs inspired by the angular rhythms and textures of post-punk, art rock, and shoegaze; as well as drawing from jazz harmony and melody. These influences are evident on both EPs recorded and released in 2024. The band is also known for their moving renditions of classic hits such as ‘8 Mile’ and ‘Still the One.’   Ex Iguana Bandcamp Ex Iguana is an emotive punk duo from Saxapahaw/Carrboro, NC. They blend evocative lyrics and catchy riffs into looping hooks that constantly threaten to self-destruct before finding cathartic release. They put out their first full-length record in May 2025 (“Be a Good Boy” – available on bandcamp) and now they’re making another one.

Indie Rock Catalog Remix: Autopilots with Hook of Moon and Persimmon

Want to see more local shows but don’t know where to start? We’ve got you.  You’ve already heard these bands from our Local Mixtape. We remixed them for a spinoff show that everyone will enjoy.  Come support local music. The level of talent is unreal. Autopilots: Autopilots are a Raleigh band that writes songs about people, regrets, and whatever else falls through the cracks. Mixing Americana’s laid-back charm with indie rock’s rough edges, Autopilots craft tunes that feel both familiar and fresh. Sometimes it’s tuneful, sometimes it veers into noise, but it’s always chasing the good stuff: tension, release, and a chorus that earns its keep. It’s music for people who want to sleep with their grandfather’s nurse but are too tired to take any meaningful steps to make it happen. Hook of Moon: Hook of Moon makes sad music that you can dance to. Persimmon:  Raleigh-based queer ambient post-hardcore band, Persimmon, formed in 2022 consisting of four unassuming independent self-expressionists, Taylor Weber (vocals), Tommy Ellis (guitar), Kai Vosberg (drums), and Soledad Vallejo (bass). Persimmon is the amalgamation of vulnerability, explored inner worlds, and larger emotions unleashed into a heavy yet dynamic sound meant to overwhelm and rapture the audience. Influenced by artists like Anthony Green, System of a Down, Windhand, and AFI, Persimmon is a multi-faceted entity blending ethereal vocals with grunge and emo elements, redefining what the post-hardcore genre encompasses.
